Habitat for Humanity and Frucle.com have partnered to help raise money for new homes in the La Crosse, Wisconsin area. Frucle.com will be giving away free advertising to local businesses who generously donate to the Habitat for Humanity annual “Raise the Roof” event.

La Crosse, WI – Habitat for Humanity’s annual Raise the Roof event will take place on February 19, 2011 with a goal of raising $25,000. With Habitat for Humanity homes costing between $90,000 and $100,000, this event will raise about one quarter the cost to build a new home for a low-income family in the La Crosse area.

Frucle 2.0.7 has been released! The major updates this week are improved support for Internet Explorer, and the ability to add attendees to events without having to edit the event. A list of updates are below.

Implemented improved support for IE8.
Added the ability to add attendees to hosted events through the add/edit attendee interface on the Meetup & Save (MUS) page. This allows the host to add attendees without having to edit the event (which causes a notification to be sent to all invitees).
Added created date to album viewer.
Updated the disabled state mechanism on all buttons.
Fixed bug with the "Set as Profile Picture" button in the edit album interface cropping the original graphic as well as the profile picture.

Frucle 2.0.5 has been released! This was a major release that included a number of key enhancements that greatly extend our functionality, including our new Find New Friend filters, new Photo controls, and our faster Friend Browser in the Stay Connected page. We've also converted all user's ages to age ranges. Please see the complete list of updates below.

Released our new Find New Friend filtering options. This update allows ours users to filter by all gathered profile data in a clean, simple interface.
Released new photo controls for changing album thumbnails and making a photo within an album your profile picture.
Converted all visible ages to age ranges to help protect our user's privacy. (Michelle - you let your friend know this was taken care of).
Updated the friend browser within the Stay Connected (SC) page so there is no longer a delay when clicking the arrows to browse friends.
Added a handle to automatically display the friend preview dialog when the site is accessed from the link within the "new friend request" email notification.
Added visibility to the number of friends a user has within the SC page.
Added adbrite tracking scripts.
Simplified suggested friends logic to quicken the generation of the suggested friends accordion on the Identify Yourself (IY) page.

Added a detailed coupon description area to coupon dialog.
Added a number of new coupons to the Las Vegas area.
Fixed a bug with the message system in Firefox that would cause the cursor to jump while replying to a message thread.
**Released the new "My Locations" feature in the Meetup & Save (MUS) page.**
Made photo album titles visible in the photo album viewer. Also simplified the animation when switching between albums.
Fixed a bug that occasionally caused the delete photo album feature not to work.

The biggest enhancement is the release of the "My Locations" feature in the Meetup & Save page where you can add your own custom locations (e.g. "My house").

Making new friends can be tough, scary business. But North Las Vegas resident Ryan Alarid is hoping it will become big business.

Alarid is chief operating officer of the new friend-finding website www.frucle.com. The free site, serving those 18 or older, launched Aug. 15 and currently boasts approximately 1,000 members nationwide.

"I think there's a big misconception that there already are a number of sites that provide this service," Alarid said. "That just isn't true. There are dating sites, sites where you can gather with people in a group, but nothing that could help you just hook up with someone to kick back, have a beer and watch the game."

Alarid said he hopes Frucle will revolutionize the process of making new friends the way online dating sites have changed finding a mate.

"It's hard to approach someone new, and then you just have to hope you have things in common," he said. "Making new friends is very tough. We are hoping to take some of the sting out of that for people."

Alarid said he came up with the idea for the site more than a year ago when he and his girlfriend at the time were trying to decide what to do on a Friday night.

"We were each scrolling through our phones trying to decide who we wanted to hang out with and couldn't really find anyone we could agree on," he said. "Not that we didn't love our friends. But a service like Frucle would have been great at that moment. We could have found another couple with similar interests to hang out with and get to know."

Alarid said that even meetup.com, a site that allows people with similar interests to form groups that revolve around those interests, doesn't provide the kind of friend-making service Frucle does.

"You can meet people with similar interests, but there is no guarantee you will like them or that you will have anything else in common," he said. "Our site matches you based on interest, morality, values and lifestyle."

Alarid said the name Frucle is actually a combination of two words: friend and circle.

"It made sense to us because the site increases your circle of friends," he said.

North Las Vegas resident Tim Cypress said he planned to join the site.

"I like the idea," he said. "I can't believe nobody came up with this before now."

Alarid said the site has incentives for users to meet in public, real world settings, with coupons from local businesses supporting the site.

"It's a really cool little system we have set up," he said.

Alarid said he hopes the site will go mainstream over the next year.

"There's a pattern with social networking that you see everywhere and it's quite simple to follow," he said. According to Alarid, social networking sites such as myspace.com, facebook.com, match.com and eharmony.com have ruled the roost for a number of years.

"These are powerhouses," he said. "One is for people you already know. One is for dating. We want to provide the same kind of service for friend-finding."

Frucle 2.0.2 has been released! This was a MAJOR release containing nearly 20 enhancements and additional features. Below is a quick list of the key enhancements within 2.0.2.

Implemented 30+ server optimization changes that increased the speed of the platform by 3-4x.
Implemented a multi-select advanced interest favorites system. Users can now select multiple favorites in each section of the advanced interests.
Implemented immediate email notifications to replace our Daily Update email.
Implemented timezone and daylight savings time detection, and an automatic timestamp conversion for the user's timezone. All timestamps across the system are now displayed in the user's timezone, while accounting for DST, automatically.
Added a number of characters remaining countdown to the edit bio interface, and the event description input field.
Messages are now sorted by last message sent date versus conversation created date. So conversations with new messages will always be displayed at the top of the inbox.
Updated our coupons with additional information and our Meetup & Save page with a more thorough and intuitive listing of coupons available in our user's local areas.

Our developers are always working hard to bring our community new and amazing features that most people have come to expect from Social Networking sites. This January they built a very slick photo gallery for you to share a few candids or just a picture you enjoy that says something about you. To access your photo gallery login to your account and click the edit pictures link below your current profile picture. To help ease using this new feature we've added tooltips to each button within the 'Edit Pictures' popup. Simply place your mouse over a button to see a description of what that button does. We hope that you will upload great images to help make Frucle a great place to meet new friends in your community. Once you have uploaded some new images you can click 'View Pictures', or simply click on your profile picture to get the gallery 'lightbox'. This feature works on anyone's profile that has uploaded a gallery of images. To view another persons image gallery simply visit their profile and click 'View Pictures' or click their profile picture in the same way you would on your own page.

Our design team has also created some new eye candy for you to enjoy. Many of the buttons across the site have been updated, as well as our core feature, coupons. The coupons have been moved to the left side of the site to give all our awesome community easier access to fantastic deals in their areas. So come on over, check it out, and tell everyone you know.
